The caves of Lebanon  >  AAQROUB SINKHOLE

Location: Mechane village, North Lebanon
Geology: Keserouane Formation
Development: -155m in depth

Special issues: Large rocks tend to fall on the descent and chicken wire placed to stop this has corroded.

Roadworks helped discover this cave. 30m down there is a large room filled with large eboulis. Chicken wire was placed at the edge of this room and this allowed a team of cavers to descend and survey the sinkhole safely. The sinkhole contains a second shaft that links to the main one near the bottom of the sinkhole.
