The caves of Lebanon  >  FAOUAR DARA SINKHOLE

In 1962 exploration of the Fouar Dara sinkhole revealed a -622 m vertical development. The cave was fully explored using iron ladders. 1965 coloring with 50 kg of fluorescein of the minor Faouar Dara water course was made on behalf of the United Nations Development Program. In 1968 colouring with 50kg of fluorescein of the water in Fouar Dara in May and exploration to its bottom with the British "Yorkshire Rambler's Club" in August was achieved.
The cave consists of a series of pits and long horizontal sections. The longest pit is called Puit Sami and is 120m in vertical development.
